I used to say “someday” all the time: someday I’ll write a book, someday I’ll slow down, someday I’ll care for myself. But someday never came until I created space and just started. That’s when everything shifted. This episode is a reminder that life isn’t waiting for later. It’s happening now.

EBT766 – The Myth of Someday
Intro 00:01
Hey food bloggers. Thank you so much for joining me in this mindset and self-care focused episode here on Eat Blog Talk. One of the reasons I started a blog talk was to hold a space to talk about the importance of mindset and self-care. Being an entrepreneur can be a lot. If we are not taking care of ourselves, then getting actionable information about SEO Pinterest or whatever else is all moot. I will meet you back here every Wednesday to discuss various mindset and self-care topics. So you have the energy and space to tackle the rest.
[00:00:34] Megan Porta
Hi. So glad to have you here today. Thank you for listening today. I am so excited to talk to you about a very sneaky trap that I’ve fallen into more times than I can count.
[00:00:47]
And maybe you have too. It’s the trap of someday. Someday when the kids are older, I’ll chase that dream. Someday when the money feels more abundant I’ll take that leap or buy that course or join that mastermind. Someday when things finally slow down, I’ll make time for myself or start a self care routine or start working out.
[00:01:09]
Fill in the blank. There are so many some days that many of us repeat in our heads all the time. But here’s the problem. Someday is a myth. It never actually comes.
[00:01:20]
Someday is elusive. So if you’ve ever caught yourself waiting for the perfect conditions before you begin whatever it is, this conversation is perfect. For years I told my husband, Dan that I was going to write a book. I didn’t know what it would be about. I just know I was meant to write not just one, but many books.
[00:01:40]
But every time I talked about it, the word someday popped up. Someday I’ll write it. Someday when I have time, it’ll happen. Someday I’ll know what the topic is. Someday I’ll know exactly what that first book is that I’m going to write about.
[00:01:54]
Someday. Someday, someday. Then this past summer, I set work down for two full weeks and I allowed myself space to breathe, to stop pushing and to stop thinking so much. And I just stopped doing. Honestly, in that space of breathing and quiet, the perfect idea for my first non cookbook book popped into my head like in an instant.
[00:02:21]
It was so crazy how fast it came to me. At first I resisted it. I said, nope, I don’t need another project right now. I secretly hoped the idea would vanish from my head. This was while we were on vacation in Montana.
[00:02:37]
So a couple weeks later, this idea kept nudging me. It wouldn’t go away. So on our way back home, I opened my laptop just to see what would happen. And the words absolutely poured out of me like a waterfall. Like my fingers were just little vessels delivering what was in my soul onto the page.
[00:03:01]
Page after page filled up, flowing faster than my fingers could type. It was crazy. Someday had suddenly become now. Waiting for that someday had kept me stuck for so many years. But when I created space and finally just started, I opened the door to everything that I’d been longing for.
[00:03:21]
The truth, my friends and me. This message is for me as well. Life doesn’t start later. It doesn’t start at some elusive someday. It’s happening now.
[00:03:32]
Look around you. Someday feels safe. But it steals your time. It convinces you to keep waiting when what you actually need is to just start. Maybe it’s imperfect or slow.
[00:03:45]
That’s fine. But you need to start today. Here’s a good reframe for all of us. We don’t need perfect conditions to start. We need presence.
[00:03:56]
We need courage. We need to take the smallest possible step right where we’re at. Because freedom and fulfillment do not arrive on some mythical future date called Someday. They are built in the choices you make today. Here is my invitation to you trade someday for today.
[00:04:17]
Ask yourself, what is one thing I keep saying I’ll do someday? Then take a single step toward it. This week or today? If you’ve been saying someday, I’ll start writing. Open a blank page and write a sentence.
[00:04:31]
If you’ve been saying someday, I’ll take better care of myself. Put on your shoes and go for a walk now or go lay down for a nap. My favorite if you’ve been saying someday, I’ll create space for my dreams. Whatever that might be, block one hour on your calendar this week and hold it as sacred. Follow through.
[00:04:53]
One small act today can totally dismantle the myth of someday.
[00:04:59]
If you’ve been waiting for the right time, let me remind you the time is now. In my upcoming book, which I alluded to in this episode, Take the Exit I share how my family and I stopped waiting for perfect conditions and just started living right in the middle of the mess. This is a story about trading someday for now, this moment, and finding freedom in the process.
[00:05:21]
If you’ve ever whispered, I don’t want to wait anymore, where is someday? When is someday going to happen?
[00:05:26]
Then this book is for you. Go to eatblogtalk.com/takethexit. Join the list. This will get you access to early details, sneak peeks, and the chance to pre-order the book. Remember, my friends, Someday is a myth.
[00:05:42]
It’s not real. But today, today is real and it’s waiting for you. So take that first step. Thank you for listening. I will see you next time. I so appreciate you.
