She’s built a following by keeping it real, fun, and full of carbs—with a side of good lighting and better vibes.

Takeaways

  • Spot trends early by scrolling TikTok: TikTok is usually where food trends originate before making their way to Instagram or Facebook.
  • Leverage curiosity and engagement: If a viral video sparks questions in the comments, that’s your cue to create a recipe or offer insight that adds value.
  • Translate trends into blog content: Don’t just stop at social media—turn viral ideas into structured, accessible recipes on your blog with clear measurements.
  • Use SEO strategically: Incorporate phrases like “viral TikTok recipe” or “copycat [creator’s name] dish” to capture what people are actually searching for.
  • Ask locals when traveling: When seeking foodie gems abroad, Ella recommends asking locals, exploring Reddit, and watching Anthony Bourdain episodes for authentic finds.
  • Post imperfect content consistently: Let go of perfectionism – showing up regularly—whether you’re polished or not—is how you open the door to exciting opportunities.
  • Batch content to avoid burnout: Take advantage of creative bursts by batching content, so you can schedule posts and give yourself breathing room during low-energy periods.

[00:01:40]  Megan Porta

Welcome to Eat Blog Talk. Ella, it’s so nice to meet you. How are you doing today?

[00:01:46]  Ella Mitchell

I’m doing very well. Extremely hot, kind of sweaty, but other than that I’m doing good. How about you?

[00:01:52]  Megan Porta

I’m not hot and sweaty yet. It’s still a little cool here in Minnesota, but can totally sympathize with the desert air. Hope you’re staying cool inside, but yeah, I’m super excited to talk about food trends. This is something that we don’t discuss often, but it’s so important because a lot of what we create and do is based on food trends. Where do we find them, how do we tap into them and all of that. But before we get into that good stuff, do you have a fun fact to share with us?

[00:02:22]  Ella Mitchell

I would say my fun fact that most people don’t know is that yes, my name is Ella, which translates in Spanish as Ella, which is just means she. But I am like half Mexican. My mom’s side of the family’s from there like and I’ve lived about three years of my life in Mexico City.

[00:02:39]

So as as gringa as I look I’m actually actually half Mexican, so. So, yeah.

[00:02:46]  Megan Porta

That’s awesome. I love that. Yeah. Ella or a, depending on who is receiving your name.

[00:02:52]  Ella Mitchell

Right, Exactly. Like, when I live in. So my middle name is Alejandra, so when living in Mexico, I just go by Alejandra. It’s like no one’s ever going to understand me saying she, so no one’s going to get it.

[00:03:05]  Megan Porta

Don’t even go there.

[00:03:06]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah.

[00:03:06]  Megan Porta

Well, cool. Love that. So I know you have a blog that’s kind of multifaceted. Eatin with Ella. Do you want to tell us a little bit about that blog?

[00:03:16]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah. So I officially launched my blog, I would say about a year and a half ago. That’s like a website, obviously, but I started doing my food videos and all that stuff 2020, kind of bored at home like we all were. And I kind of got that inspiration from those buzzfeed videos from back in the day where it was, you know, no face, no nothing. It was just like people’s hands obviously create cooking food and they were always making the coolest things and, you know, like a lasagna pizza or whatever it was. And so I was bored at home, love cooking, so I just started making videos. And then last year is when I started being like, oh, I should really just get this down on paper or I guess on the Internet and write it down. So I really started, like, actually, like launching my website and everything back then. And yeah, I really enjoy it.

[00:04:10]  Megan Porta

Is kind of staying aligned with the trends and tapping into them in the foodie realm. Is that something that you’ve always been interested and always done?

[00:04:19]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, I think that when I did the started with my TikTok and started creating those videos, the way to really get traction in your videos or get yourself to have an audience is to follow the trends and to be doing something someone else sees as familiar. So I’ve noticed that when people are all talking about that, you know, feta block pasta with the noodles and whatever, it’s like, it only helps to do it too. And just say. And maybe your spin on it is, is this worth the hype? Is this worth what everyone’s talking about? Because then you’re getting the views, you’re getting those follows and people, you’re getting the eyes that you need to then translate to people coming to your blog. So. So I kind of feel like it’s jumping on the bandwagon to get the people to see you, to then show them kind of your unique things.

[00:05:11]  Megan Porta

So to get on the bandwagon, we obviously need to know, like what the bandwagon is, how do we find that? Do we just go on TikTok and look at what is trending for recipe videos or Instagram?

[00:05:24]  Ella Mitchell

I’m definitely a avid scroller.

[00:05:26]  Megan Porta

Yeah.

[00:05:26]  Ella Mitchell

So that’s kind of where I thrive. So, yeah, I’ll see. You know, one person makes it and then if I find it interesting, I know that other people are going to find it interesting. For example, there was one during COVID that a girl was eating. It was pickled garlic in a jar and she would add in sriracha and thyme and she lived in Germany.

[00:05:49]

Anyway, it was like a huge video trend and so everyone, like, when have you ever thought to buy pickled garlic? Never. But they were off the shelves because this girl made that video and everyone wanted to try it. So. So I definitely am kind of a scroll. If I see something that’s interesting, I go for it.

[00:06:06]

For example, I would say one of my most recent posts that actually did well was I saw someone on TikTok. It was actually the TikTok account for all recipes like that website. And it was just a woman saying, I’m eating rotel tacos and she didn’t even give a recipe. Nothing. Just, I mean, rotel tacos.

[00:06:26]

And the comments are literally begging for someone to explain what that means. And so I instantly just walked to the store across the street, bought the ingredients and I made rotel tacos. And that video did well based because I knew it was going to do well based off of those comments.

[00:06:44]  Megan Porta

Right. Oh, interesting. Okay, so you can kind of do your own scrolling and see what is creating that engagement. Right. And then create either a recipe, you your own version of the recipe, or maybe just your opinion about it. Like you said, like, this sounds terrible or this sounds great, something like that.

[00:07:05]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, I think that that’s my biggest one is just, you know, you’ve seen everyone else doing this, but is it worth you actually going out and getting it? Let me do it for you. Kind of vibe? Yeah.

[00:07:15]  Megan Porta

Okay, so TikTok is a great place for that because I know a lot of people publish recipes and ideas or opinions about recipes on TikTok. Is Instagram also a good place to look at?

[00:07:26]  Ella Mitchell

I have found, I think that currently, in just my opinion, but it’s TikTok sees it first and then it’s Instagram and then it’s Facebook. So you know, your Grandma might be DMing you that recipe on, you know, Facebook and you’re like, grandma, that was last month. Like we saw that. But it just Takes a while to trickle down, I would say.Because in TikTok is such a. I would say TikTok’s the one where you would catch on to it first rather than Instagram. Yeah, okay.

[00:07:56]  Megan Porta

It’s the place to go first. So most of my listeners are food bloggers. Some of them are also TikTok creators and Instagram creators. So do you recommend if you find a trend to just talk about it on social media or do you think we can translate it to our blogs as well?

[00:08:17]  Ella Mitchell

I think that you can definitely translate it to your blogs because for the most part, for example, there was one girl who made. Who’s Australian, she’s very big and she made Turkish pasta and like her mom’s from Turk and it’s not really Turkish pasta. It’s just like what her family recipe was and she didn’t add, you know, any measurements.

[00:08:40]

She didn’t really say anything other than like, this is how we make it. It’s ground beef, it has a little bit of yogurt. It has all these things. So. So I think that as a food blogger, if you watch those videos, create your own recipe and actually have measurements, then you can totally create a blog and say that viral video, this is how you make it.

[00:08:59]

Rather than. Because I know a lot of people in my life who are afraid of cooking don’t have that. Like, I’m very eyeball it because I know what’s going to be good and what’s not and not as many people have that knack. So if you can give them specific measurements and everything, I think that it would translate super well.

[00:09:21]  Megan Porta

Okay, so you can reference it in your blog post and then. Yeah, create your own take on it.

[00:09:28]  Ella Mitchell

Exactly. I think too, that’s the big one. Because if you think about the SEO of it all, it would be what are they searching to find this. So it would be like her name, like her name’s Viral Pasta is probably what people are searching. So maybe you adding that a little bit into your title just. Or a copycat of whatever, just to give it. Yeah, give them credit. But it’s what people are searching.

[00:09:50]  Megan Porta

And then currently, let’s see what is today. I don’t. I think it’s middle of June. Ish. What is trending right now for food.

[00:09:57]  Ella Mitchell

For food right now. I think that granted I’m. I’m in a baking side of things.

[00:10:04]  Megan Porta

Okay.

[00:10:04]  Ella Mitchell

So I’ve been seeing a lot of. In a lot of southern situations. That’s some of my favorite foods. But right now, especially with this, the tomatoes being in season, I’ve been seeing a lot of southern tomato pies. Mm. And I’m obsessed. I want to make one so bad. It’s kind of like a pie with sliced up big heirloom tomatoes and kind of like a. Not a pimento cheese situation on top, but kind of that idea. Which I think a pimento cheese situation would be even better. But they would do like a cream cheese cheese thing on top and they bake it into a pie. And it looks incredible. But I think that’s currently what would probably be trending on my page.

[00:10:47]  Megan Porta

And then do you find that from year to year different thing? Like, weird things emerge? Like, I know seasonally, like tomato season and cucumber season, zucchini and all of that. But are there any, like, kind of uniquely weird things emerging this summer that you haven’t seen before?

[00:11:07]  Ella Mitchell

I think it also. Okay. I feel like it’s like sometimes foods are also trending when some country is trending, if that makes sense. You know what I mean? So it’s like, for example, I remember last summer there was a huge dive into making Brazilian lemonade. And it’s. It was just because I guess a lot of influencer, maybe people that people were watching had gone there and said it was so good.So then those videos started to emerge. And so I think it also has to do a little bit with a country being like, kind of like a country is trending, if that makes sense.

[00:11:47]  Megan Porta

I never would have thought of it like that. That’s really interesting.

[00:11:51]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah.

[00:11:51]  Megan Porta

Yeah. Okay. So you do a lot of traveling as well because your blog is partially a travel blog. Correct. So how do you manage food when you’re traveling? I think that’s one of the perks of traveling, is trying to try getting to try new foods and experiment with new things that you normally wouldn’t.So how do you. Yeah, like, how do you find those gems when you’re traveling?

[00:12:14]  Ella Mitchell

Well, I think that I have just a knack for it. It’s really my thing. I. It was so funny. I recently, my boyfriend and I just went to like, Hong Kong, Wuhan and Seoul, South Korea. And before we were going, I just remember saying, well, we should definitely add Seoul or wherever it was. It was just. And I said, because I just can’t wait to eat there. And he literally looked at me and was like, well, why is it like, shouldn’t you want to see the things? And I was like, no, no, we’ll see the. See the things in between meals.

[00:12:45]  Megan Porta

Yeah, meals are priority.

[00:12:47]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, like Meals are my. I’ll walk to see the things. I just want to know I’m being fed along the way. And I think the best way truly to find those best ones are definitely a social media. I think social media is a back and forth for me because I’ve gone to some of those places that people are like, this is amazing.

[00:13:06]

And 100% that plate looked gorgeous. But, you know, I’m not necessarily a person who needs to eat with my eyes. I definitely had some. I went to one place in Seoul that was definitely a trendy place and I didn’t love it. And the man who sold me street food was 10 times better, you know.

[00:13:22]  Megan Porta

Right.

[00:13:23]  Ella Mitchell

I’m definitely more that type of an eater. But I also find a good space is Reddit. It’s an amazing place because people from those countries are the ones that are telling you, I live here, this is where I like to eat. You know, and maybe they don’t and they’re not the people that own their food blogs. Right. I think it’s just because it’s like directly from those people who live there.

[00:13:44]  Megan Porta

So getting the insider scoop somehow.

[00:13:46]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, exactly. Or yeah, it’s the insider scoop. And it’s also, I mean, I’m the first person to annoy my boyfriend. I get in an Uber and I’m like, where would you eat? Where. Where are you eating out here? You know, and they’re the. This is where I love to go. And I love too, that it’s not, oh, I go to this five star restaurant. Like, it’s like, no, no. This mom and pop place that’s been here for, you know, 50 years. That’s where I enjoy getting my Chicago dog. Like, that’s where I want to eat.

[00:14:13]  Megan Porta

Yeah. Do you have any blogs or other resources you go to, like maybe podcasts or something when you’re looking for those hidden foodie gems or is it just asking locals?

[00:14:25]  Ella Mitchell

I definitely think that I will search it up and see there’s definitely, you know, the Eater. Like there’s Eater la, there’s Eater this. I. I definitely take those into account and add them to my list. And then maybe I’ll cross reference that with like the Google reviews or, you know, I also am a die hard for an Anthony Bourdain.

[00:14:47]

So I mean, I’m gonna watch his episode before I go to that city and see what they have there. But definitely, I definitely am like, I’ll Google. I’ll look at everything. I’m a person who has so many pins on my Google Maps when I go places. But that’s. And then I put a little note, like they said that the French toast here is amazing.

[00:15:07]

Or I put little things because I think when you travel, sometimes you end up in a place and then you’re like, oh, my gosh, we’re hungry. What are we going to do? And I can pull that up and be like, oh, this is what’s around us.

[00:15:16]  Megan Porta

Yeah, yeah, that’s so true. I think taking notes is so huge when you’re in a new city and just logging everything, like, exactly what you ate at which restaurant and. And also taking note of what other people say to you. Even friends that travel to a random city in the U.S. like, where did you eat?

[00:15:35]

Tell me. And then you write it down to reference later. I think all those things can play into traveling. I know food bloggers do travel a lot. A lot of them do. And obviously they’re foodies, so they’re always looking for gems. Do you have any other tips for them or suggestions for traveling and just getting the best, best food?

[00:15:56]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, I mean, I think one is always. I mean, that I have already said is always just to ask locals and see what they’re doing. I think the bane is that you, when you’re traveling. I, I feel like sometimes people want to go to a place and go to that most popular restaurant.

[00:16:14]

And I, I always feel that it’s never as good as it. I. That’s just me. I’m a person, in my personal opinion, and don’t get me wrong, every time I go to a different country, I’m like, let’s do the street food and let’s try to Michelin star restaurant. I am almost always getting another meal after the Michelin star.

[00:16:31]

I’m going to the Michelin star and heading to street tacos after. But I also, like, appreciate the artistry of it all. I think that I would push people to meet more towards what is local so that you actually experience that country more than what was geared for tourists and being uncomfortable. That’s really the main thing because I think that when you travel, you’re going for what’s comfortable, what’s easy. They’re definitely going to speak English. And I’m the place where I’m like, I am just. I’ll point at a picture if I have to. I’ll pull out my Google Translate. I just want to be like, I want to be in it and say that I was there rather than, you know, that I got like, kind of the Americanized experience.

[00:17:17]  Sponsor

[00:18:29]  Megan Porta

And then when you go to new restaurants, do you actually publish reviews about what you eat on your site?

[00:18:34]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, so I have like a section in mine that’s literally called Is it worth the Hype? Where I actually go to restaurants that are hugely popular and that’s where I review it and then I’ll just. And I also. Okay. I think the big thing about reviewing food is that you have to. I understand that, like, what I enjoy is not what you’re gonna enjoy, is not what they’re gonna enjoy.

[00:18:58]

I’m not a huge fan of coconut. I’m okay with coconut, but if it’s so coconutty, it’ll destroy it for me. But it could be the best for someone else. So I try to review food in that way of just being like, it was, you know, this was delicious. This wasn’t my vibe. But if you like X, Y and Z, that it would be yours. But I, I mean, but I think we could all like, across the board be like, oh, but, you know, the chicken was raw. So like I, you know, there’s.

[00:19:23]  Megan Porta

Yeah.

[00:19:24]  Ella Mitchell

Having those conversations for sure. But I always try to keep it like that’s something that I just. That’s why when you read some places that have three stars on Google, I try to go through. Because I’m like, were you. What were you actually mad about? Was the. Like, if you’re saying it’s the flavor of the food, one thing is different than, you know, service or whatever.

[00:19:44]  Megan Porta

Absolutely, yeah. Taste buds are so different. Across the board. So you just have to keep that in mind and not be like, this was a crappy meal because I don’t like coconut. Instead, I like that you’re just. Yeah, you step back a little bit and you can kind of see the bigger picture and deliver.

[00:19:59]  Ella Mitchell

Right. And I mean, I’m just. And don’t get me wrong, half the. Half the reviews I have on there, I’m like, not worth the hype. But that’s my opinion. Like, I also don’t want, you know, I don’t know. And like, recently it was maybe it was like, maybe like Obama’s or something came to Phoenix and ate at one restaurant.

[00:20:17]

Because I noticed on my SEO that one of my restaurants that was. Is it where the hype was, like, blowing up. And I was like, I feel so bad because I said it wasn’t, but I was like, I’m so sorry.

[00:20:29]  Megan Porta

Oh, gosh, that’s funny. So how do you feel about food bloggers putting the same sorts of reviews on their blogs? Is that something that helps your traffic? Do you care? Maybe you don’t care if it helps your traffic? Do you just want the value there?

[00:20:47]  Ella Mitchell

I think for me personally, and this is just because, like, Ella, as the branding with Ella, I like getting, you know, obviously the collaborations and the experiences. So. And being able to, like, you know, I’ve had, like, tourism boards reach out to me and things like that, which are really exciting. And that’s something. That’s my goal and something I enjoy. So I think that it’s all about whether that’s something you’re interested in. Right. So if that’s something that you want to be able to pursue, then all. All for it, you know.

[00:21:21]  Megan Porta

Yeah. Right. I think it’s just decision that you have to make on your personal brand. Like, some brands probably wouldn’t align with that and some would.

[00:21:33]  Ella Mitchell

Right.

[00:21:33]  Megan Porta

So it’s an option, though, I think if you really like, you enjoy going out and exploring new foods and new tastes, then that could align with what your brand is and you could write more about it, not just on your blog, but on social media too. Or either. Or.

[00:21:49]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, exactly. And something that I’ve definitely realized is, you know, some videos that I have can do super well that people are looking at rather than the blog post about it, and then vice versa. So I always try. For me, it’s like cast in a wide net. I mean, one. And maybe a video that does well on Instagram, doesn’t do great on YouTube or whatever. And then it’s always vice versa So I just feel like when I have a piece of content in written and. Or video, I try to just throw it out there.

[00:22:21]  Megan Porta

So when you find a new trend, a new food trend, how do you go about, I don’t know, like, exploring it creatively? So do you have a process like you create a video and then you maybe create a post, or is it just. Does it just depend on your inspiration for that trend?

[00:22:40]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, I mean, I think my process personally is just if I think, for example, again, those rotel tacos, I literally looked at it, I was like, I need to try this. It was just like instant. I’m going to walk out the door and go figure out how to make this. And also sometimes I’ll throw it in to, you know, a ChatGPT.

[00:23:01]

Hey, I really liked this smoothie. These were the ingredients. What are your thoughts on how maybe this is being made? Or what are these kind of things? Or just kind of seeing what. What’s out there and then going. And then kind of recipe testing it to, like, I enjoy it. And then I usually am making a video of it all.

[00:23:21]

And I like to make my videos kind of being like, this one, this one was bad. Don’t do this one, you know, and then, oh, I finally got it right because I used this versus that. Or maybe it was this cheese and not that one. But I tried to document it all because all of it is content.

[00:23:36]

And I try not to be like a perfectionist when it comes to that because I was in the past and that was when I just really wasn’t posting because I kept thinking, oh, what is, you know, what’s this problem? Or what’s that problem? And I try to be more just. Just throw it out there, who really cares?Kind of more of a vibe of that.

[00:23:56]  Megan Porta

Yeah, perfectionism doesn’t really align with being a fruitful content creator. I don’t think. So it’s good that you dropped that. How much time do you spend in your business doing all of this? Because you do cover a wide array of topics between food or recipe posts and then traveling and, you know, recipe reviews at restaurants and then traveling.

[00:24:20]  Ella Mitchell

Right. Yeah, I mean, I spend all my time doing this, but in a. I think for me, it’s something I enjoy doing. So it doesn’t feel like it’s work. So, I mean, I, yes, I am spending a decent amount. I mean, yes, I also have a day job, but I do enjoy. This is like one of my favorite things to be doing.

[00:24:39]

And if I’m cooking, set up my phone like, throw it together. And then later on, before I go to bed, maybe I’m writing about that recipe that I made. It’s not. But to me, it just doesn’t feel like work because I enjoy doing it.

[00:24:52]  Megan Porta

Yeah, that’s good. I think that’s the goal for everyone. Right? And then talk about. Okay, so going back to that perfection thing, I think that a lot of people don’t do video because of that. Like, they feel like they have to show up perfectly. Their hair has to be perfect. They have to be in the perfect mood, whatever, like the perfect setting. So talk about getting over that, because I think this is a big hurdle for a lot of my listeners, for sure.

[00:25:17]  Ella Mitchell

I mean, for example, I have my sister, Jeremy. She and I literally sound the exact same. We pretty much have the same voice. And it’s so funny because sometimes she’ll hear me editing and she’s literally like, how do you do it? How do you listen to your voice and not cringe or whatever it is?

[00:25:32]

And I literally was like, for one, we have the same voice. For two, once you just. It’s kind of like immersion therapy kind of. And two, I also. I do videos. I currently look. Okay. Okay. I almost never post a video where I have any makeup on. I almost never do. The comments I get are always pretty.I mean, they’re. To me, they’re funny. But that’s just because I’m. I’m just past that. I think you just have to get past it. And there’s no way to do it with Than just do it. And also, I mean, what some. I mean, I don’t know. I don’t really. I don’t have the embarrassment about it because I.I don’t. I don’t know how to explain. Like, I don’t really see people that see. And mostly it’s just my friends and family who were like, oh, I’ll post it again. And I’ve been doing it for so long that no one. It just doesn’t faze anyone. And I met my boyfriend about a year ago, and, like, he’s kind of getting over the fact that I bring a ring light with me.

[00:26:32]

But I just was like, well, this is part of the deal. This is what I’m doing. We’re going around. I have a camera. I’m sorry.

[00:26:39]  Megan Porta

Yeah, that’s funny. So in a nutshell, just do it. Like, just get started and consistently show up is the message.

[00:26:47]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah. And I mean, if I tell you right now, I mean, I. The amount of, like, cool opportunities I’ve had from it is just insane, you know, like, so that’s really one of the things that I try like telling people is that just doing it, you get so many opportunities. You get so many brands who like to reach out to you, to send you X, Y and Z or just whatever it is. It’s like I’ve gotten really cool things and opportunities out of it that I wouldn’t have been able to do if I weren’t just posting my face on the Internet. So.

[00:27:21]  Megan Porta

And you don’t know what those opportunities are. Right. Like when you get started, you have, you cannot conceive what could possibly come your way. And when they do, you’re like, wow, that was really cool. I could have never predicted that.

[00:27:33]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah. I also think too, that’s a big thing for people is that people kind of are like, oh, you know, I want things to change. I want. So I want change, but are too afraid to make changes. So it’s like, you know, it’s like you’re instead of, instead of making a choice to change, like you’re choosing to stay the same in that way. You are making that choice, you know, So I always encourage people, just do it.

[00:28:02]  Megan Porta

That’s okay. What you said is so powerful. So yes, most people you talk to are going to say that they want change, but are you willing to change in order to get that change? That’s, that’s where what it comes down.

[00:28:15]  Ella Mitchell

To right there and then it’s just like, well then, you know, you’re not making choices. You’re. You’re choosing to just stay the same if you’re not changing. So like that is. And at the end of the day you’re making choices.

[00:28:26]  Megan Porta

Oh, that, that’s really good. Yep. Okay, so you have a full time job. Correct. And you do all of this amazing stuff on the sidelines.

[00:28:34]  Ella Mitchell

Yes.

[00:28:35]  Megan Porta

So how do you deal with burnout and just like, do you get burned out? How do you manage and balance and all of that?

[00:28:43]  Ella Mitchell

I definitely get burnout. I definitely get into like headspaces where, you know, I, I’ll go for a month where I’m like posting all the time and having all these things and then another day where I’m just so over it. I think the way I, I definitely get through it, I feel like it’s kind of like a cycle.

[00:29:01]

Like I just, I have my lows and with my lows I know that they come. So I usually like have things scheduled so that I’m never feeling like, oh, I didn’t post this day. I never want to feel as though I have a deadline, so I try to, especially on my good days. Okay, well, then I’m going to sit here, edit three videos, and then help, you know, write up some blog posts. I try to schedule myself out to give myself the time to not feel that way.

[00:29:33]  Megan Porta

Yeah, burnout’s not fun. I think managing it and maybe not getting to the place where we’re burned out is a unique journey for all of us. But unfortunately, we just have so much passion for our jobs and what we do that I think it’s kind of inevitable for a lot of us, unfortunately.

[00:29:53]  Ella Mitchell

And I think it’s a bummer when it stops being fun. Like, that’s where I, like, get sad, because I’m like, this is my favorite thing ever. So that’s why I try to push it out and make it not necessarily feel like a job, more as a. I get back to where it’s fun for me.

[00:30:09]  Megan Porta

Yeah, totally. And I have to bring this up because it’s funny in your notes, why nobody tells you how hard it is to edit your face chewing. So talk about that.

[00:30:21]  Ella Mitchell

Oh, yeah, no. If you ever see any of my videos, I mean, it’s a lot. Then I get to a point where I’m like, do I chew with my mouth open? Like, do I have manners? Like, you really start to go down a cycle.

[00:30:34]  Megan Porta

Yes.

[00:30:35]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah. Literally, I’m like, I don’t. I mean, this must be what it feels like to be on a reality TV show. And, like, you’re looking at, like, oh, that’s what I look like, you know? Yeah, no, it’s. It’s pretty rough. You’re like. And then when you’re cutting it, you’re like, at what point do I, like, do I start it or stop it? You know, you just. It’s hard to really gauge.

[00:30:54]  Megan Porta

Yeah, but do you have tips for that? Like, how do we. Because it is not glamorous, but sometimes we have to do it to get that reaction, right. Yeah. Do you have tips? Do you just, like.

[00:31:04]  Ella Mitchell

I mean, I say beers. I mean, I say be yourself. I do not cut out the ugly stuff half the time. Like, I’m still doing a video, and there’s, like, chili oil dripping down my face, and then I just roll with it. I’m like, well, that’s. That is. That’s pretty. That is me.

[00:31:18]

So. Yeah, but I’m. But that’s kind of who I am. Like, I definitely have that goofiness that I don’t care. I mean, my bio on most things is that my dream man is a cross between Action Bronson and Guy Fieri. So, you know. Yeah, so it’s like, you know, I just roll with that as my personality.

[00:31:38]  Megan Porta

Yeah. I can see different maybe personalities and brands aligning more with like, okay, I need to edit out the ugly stuff and the end of the bite. Maybe with the happy face.

[00:31:51]  Ella Mitchell

For sure. I mean, I feel like it’s kind of like, you know, there’s the Nara Smiths of the world. If you don’t. Smith is. She’s yeah big on TikTok and like hers is just like light voices and like so this and like I am so far from that. But it’s just like I know that that’s not me, but if like that is you amazing.

[00:32:10]

Then you edited the way that it looks like, you know, amazing out of a J. Crew model. Like I. That one’s just not me.

[00:32:19]  Megan Porta

So, Ella, what else do you have to impart to food bloggers? Just looking to tap more into food trends or be a more efficient content creator. Anything else before we start saying goodbye?

[00:32:32]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, I just think that the main thing I would mostly say for people is to branch out. So if you’re just doing your food blog and it’s just written and it’s just that just trying to figure out what else you could be doing and what people are watching and how they’re watching it, just seeing kind of, I guess taking a step back and saying like, how do people get to my video?

[00:32:57]

Instead of like. Or how do people get to my blog? Or all those things. Kind of taking those steps back and seeing what it is. Exactly. And I also love, I mean, I think most of you guys are probably already on Pinterest. I love Pinterest. Pinterest is such a great one. And if you’ve thought about making videos, just go for it for it.

[00:33:17]

Super easy. And you really aren’t making. You don’t have to make full length videos by any means. I mean most your TikToks and Instagrams are under 60 seconds. So you’re just really quickly chopping it together. You don’t have to put anything. It could be really just a teaser to go to your blog to see that full recipe.

[00:33:34]

So giving yourself maybe putting yourself out there on multiple platforms so that you get more eyes is what my biggest suggestion would be.

[00:33:42]  Megan Porta

I love it. Well, thank you. I feel inspired now. I’m hungry for tomato pie. Sounded so good. Thanks for joining us and for just sharing all your value and showing up today. We really appreciate it.

[00:33:54]  Ella Mitchell

Thank you.

[00:33:55]  Megan Porta

Do you have either a favorite quote or words of inspiration to leave us with?

[00:33:58]  Ella Mitchell

Okay, I think that my favorite quote or one of the newest ones or not newest. I just saw it because it was something about Anthony Bourdain, but where he’s talking about like if it’s one thing that he says to anyone, it’s like to move and get as far away as possible and just experience more.

[00:34:17]

Because especially in kind of the world we live in today. And so everyone’s so separate. It’s like walking in other people’s shoes, seeing other people’s perspectives. So just getting as far away as you can, having an open mind. I highly suggest seeing the world. I love it. Oh, I love that run.

[00:34:35]  Megan Porta

Yeah, that’s a great way to end this chat. Thank you. We will put together a show notes page for you, Ella, if anyone wants to go peek at those. We’ll have everything we talked about today. You can head to eatblogtalk.com/eatinwithella so tell everyone where they can find you.

[00:34:51]  Ella Mitchell

Yeah, so I’m eatenwithella.com and I’m the same Eatin with Ella on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube. Yeah, you can find me on there. And you can always reach out to me if you have any other questions and this is so fun. Thank you.
